Observations and Anecdotal Information
Benzoin essential oil is normally solvent extracted (ours is pure steam distilled). Solvent extracted oils are not of therapeutic quality, or suitable for internal uses. Other similar species are often represented as “benzoin” as well.
A diluted blend of benzoin essential oil is helpful for relieving the itching and irritation of chicken pox and measles. It also makes a wonderful post natal massage oil, relieving sensitivity, warming, and stimulating circulation.
Smelling benzoin can help anorexia, relieving the resistance to food.
It can help asthma by opening the breathing passages when inhaled. It works well in inhalers for these purposes.
