Frankincense has been used for over 5,000 years as a medicinal and spiritual incense. It is very tied into the holiday season, used throughout biblical times and for thousands of years previously.
It was used in ancient Egypt as one of the key oils for enhancing the ascension process, both for spiritual development and for medicinal purposes.
It was considered a ceremonial oil by early Christians, and throughout the Middle East and Africa. Its beneficial effects on the human energy field are well known by many cultures.
Frankincense is a powerful digestive system tonic. It improves digestion, relieves gas, soothes intestines, and relieves burping, and can be taken internally to help these conditions, at proper dilution. It has been shown effective for certain cases of Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.
It can also be helpful for abdominal pain and bloating, by rubbing the oil (diluted) on the surface of the abdomen. For severe indigestion, a drop or 2 of frankincense can be placed in a quart of water and a tablespoon of this mixture swallowed; or it can be used as a compress on the abdomen.
