The river red gum tree is a huge tree that grows along desert waterways of Australia. Because of its ability to live in swamplands and transform them into drier lands, it has been used all over Africa and Asia to rehabilitate swamp land infested with malaria. Now it is grown in many locations around the world, and has helped to make healthier environments for animals and humans.
Aboriginal medicine has relied on river red gum for unknown generations. This large and beautiful tree is called “Apara” by the indigenous peoples. It has been used as an anti-septic, anti-microbial, and disinfectant.
River red gum essential oil has healing properties for gastro-intestinal issues, including ulcers and diarrhea. Lung ailments and flu symptoms were treated by inhaling the smoke of the tree, and also can be relieved by inhaling the diffused oil.
It is also used as a muscle relaxant, pain reliever, and liniment for aching joints. It opens the flow of energy and circulation, and relieves stagnation in the skin and muscles.
