Observations and Anecdotal Information
White champa essential oil is distilled from the leaves, and champaca CO2 extract is extracted from the flowers.
The oil from the leaves has its own medicinal properties. It is an expectorant, helping to resolve congestion and coughing. It can relieve fevers, and helps bronchitis and sore throats.
White leaf champa is also known as a urinary tonic, helping to relieve inflammation and infections in the urinary tract and bladder. It also provides relief for gout and rheumatism.
It has been used traditionally to restore vision, see compress information for information on how to apply a compress to the eyes.
The champa tree is so profusely abundant in flowering that it requires several years between flowering to rest, so the oil is harvested every two to three years.
